Seven FBA titles nominated for CILIP Carnegie/Greenaway Medals 2020

Nominations were released today for the prestigious Carnegie and Greenaway medals, awarded to books written in English for children and young people that create an outstanding reading experiences through writing and illustration, respectively. And our authors made a very good showing indeed.
FBA’ers nominated for the Carnegie Medal were…
- Linda Newbery, with The Key to Flambards – her absorbing and intriguing update of K.M. Peyton’s legendary children’s series.
- Christopher Vick, with his thrilling and magical exploration of an unlikely friendship between a British boy and a Berber girl and their indominable will to survive, Girl Boy Sea.
& - Lisa Williamson, with her poignant, thought-provoking and intensely readable tale of a girl and her secret, Paper Avalanche.
For the Kate Greenaway medal, David Almond was FBA’s real champion, with no less than three titles nominated – War is Over, Joe Quinn’s Poltergeist, and The Dam – illustrated by David Litchfield, Dave McKean, and Levi Pinfold, respectively. And rounding out the nominations was Neil Packer’s beautifully illustrated children’s edition of Peter Frankopan’s smash bestseller, The Silk Roads.
The shortlists will be announced in March next year, with the winners revealed on 17 June. Best of luck to everyone involved!
