FBA client Carlos Acosta and the BRB stage 3 minutes of glittering lockdown ballet

Posted on 11/04/2020

More and more artistic institutions are providing lockdown content, but this might be the most beautiful yet.

Introduced by Birmingham Royal Ballet director and FBA client Carlos Acosta, this three minutes of ethereal – yet incredibly human – artistry, is a tonic to our souls.

Pianist Jonathan Higgins, cellist António Novais and ballet superstar Céline Gittens – all in their separate homes – perform The Dying Swan, with a surprise ending – a choreographic intervention by Carlos himself means this is no longer a dying swan but one who, in the final moments, raises her head, hand and heart in hope.

When a dancer herself is transported, so can we be, too…

Please, in these trouble times, consider supporting the arts.  The Birmingham Royal Ballet is running a #BeRightBack drive to help it survive the crisis,  If you can afford it, please donate.  In return, the BRB is running an extensive Home From Home programme, including this ballet class with some of the world’s top dancers, available on BBC iPlayer.
