Emily Hauser

Dr Emily Hauser is an award-winning and Times bestselling ancient historian, author, and broadcaster. She is Senior Lecturer in Classics and Ancient History at the University of Exeter and read Classics at Cambridge with Mary Beard, where she took a double first with distinction and won the prestigious Chancellor’s Medal for Classical Proficiency. She has a PhD in Classics from Yale and was a Junior Fellow at the Harvard University Society of Fellows.

Emily is a bestselling author of both fiction and non-fiction retelling the stories of the women of Greek myth. Her novels, For the Most Beautiful (Transworld, 2016), For the Winner (Transworld, 2017) and For the Immortal (Transworld, 2018), make up the acclaimed Golden Apple trilogy. Her most recent book and debut public history, Mythica: A New History of Homer’s World, through the Women Written Out Of It (Transworld, 2025), was an instant Times bestseller and was listed among Waterstones’ Best Books of 2025. Her books have been shortlisted for the International Hellenic Prize as well as the Seminary Co-Op’s Best Books of 2023, and her academic book How Women Became Poets (Princeton, 2023) was selected as Choice Outstanding Academic Title of the Year. She writes frequently for the Guardian, the Times Literary Supplement, the Independent and other outlets.

Emily is also a regular radio and TV broadcaster, as seen on the BBC, Channel 5 and National Geographic, and on radio on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 5 Live, Times Radio and more.
