SUBMISSIONS

We receive thousands of submissions a year, but we make a point of reading every one and this has resulted in some notable successes.

Do take a look at our client list to get a sense of the authors we represent and whether or not your book might appeal to us. We do not accept initial submissions by email.

Submission Guidelines

Fiction
Please write to us enclosing a synopsis and the first three or four consecutive chapters on loose A4 paper, one side only, with double or 1.5 line spacing. Please ensure that the pages are numbered.

In the covering letter, tell us briefly about any previously published work and relevant details about yourself. Please include your email address and sufficient return postage if you would like us to return your manuscript, otherwise just a stamped addressed envelope for our response. Do make sure you keep a copy of all material submitted to us.

Non-fiction
We suggest you include the following in your submission:

A covering letter of ideally not more than one page, explaining who you are and why you are the best person to write the proposed book

An outline of 3-4 pages, on A4 paper, double-spaced, setting out clearly why the book is important and original, what research or experience you are basing it on, how it compares to any other books on the subject, and what you would cover in it.

If one of our agents decides to take it further, she will get in touch to discuss next steps.

Children's books
We welcome novels for children of 8 and older, including Young Adult novels. We don't represent illustrators, or picture book writers. Please follow the same guidelines as for Fiction in submitting your work to us.

What we look for - and what we don't
We are particularly interested in commercial and literary fiction and non-fiction for the adult market and children's fiction for 8+. We don't represent adult science fiction, horror, fantasy, light romance, self- help, memoir, film and TV scripts, plays, poetry or picture/illustrated books. We represent writers living outside the UK only in exceptional circumstances.

Response time and feedback
We aim to respond within 8 weeks of receipt of material, but we cannot guarantee this as we need to give priority to our existing clients. We won't give detailed feedback unless we decide to pursue your project further. We will, however, respond to every submission, if you include a correctly stamped addressed envelope or your email address. We recycle any material that is not returned to you. Please remember that rejection by us does not mean your work is not publishable - perseverance is the key! If you would like to send us your material for consideration, please address it to: SUBMISSIONS Felicity Bryan Associates 2A North Parade Avenue Banbury Road Oxford OX2 6LX
